Asher Jarvis arrives...to the strains of Beck.

May I introduce Asher Jarvis Danaher-Flavell, born on Tuesday August 12, 2014, at 8.13am. Asher weighed in at 6 pounds, 7 ounces, and was born at St Vincent's Private Hospital, East Melbourne. A little story about Asher's birth... While waiting the agonising wait outside the operating theatre (Asher was born by elective c-section), I noticed our wonderful anaesthetist Joe was wearing a Pebble watch. Rob and I both have Pebbles and love them, but it's reasonably rare to see another one. Joe explained that he absolutely loved his Pebble because it allowed him to control the music in the operating theatre. What a super guy. He asked Rob and I if we had any requests for music while the c-section was happening. Amazing. Rob jumped at the opportunity and requested Beck's latest album, Morning Phase. As Asher was born, the ethereal song Morning (opening track from Morning Phase) was playing. Our joy was palpable - we had a healthy boy - another healthy boy. Coincidentally, the song The Golden Age, from Beck's magnificent Sea Change album is the song that I most associate with our 9-year-old son's arrival. There's always been something about the lyric "Put your hands on the wheel, let the Golden Age begin" that sums up the all-encompassing experience of a new baby.
